Improvements of Work and Labor

The Fair Standards Labor Act was created in 1938. It’s purpose was to create a better working environment for all employees.

Working conditions before the FSLA was passed were very poor. Often times, 8 hour shifts were worked without breaks and under harsh conditions such as unsanitary work stations and lack of bathroom breaks.

The pay checks distributed to employees were unfair and not distributed equally. For example, white caucasion men would earn more than blacks, women and children for the same amount of work. In order to prevent this in the future, the FSLA created a “minimum wage,” where all employees would start their income. The FSLA also allowed the chance for ‘bonus’ and pay raises.

The FSLA changed the ways of American jobs making it more suitable for employees and to enhance the quality of their work. The FSLA is intact today, and applies in all 50 states
