The Richard Nixon Checkers Speech: 1952

Richard Nixon's Checkers Speech is one of the greatest political scandals in the world. Throughout his life, Richard Nixon had been both involved in his community and his state.

Born in California on January 9th 1913, Nixon spent years studiously studying in order to pursue a career in law. Though he did not do well in school at a young age, his determination for a good education demonstrated a superior trait for a future influential political leader. In which, as it happens, he graduated second in class as Whittier University, and third in his class at Duke University.

He obviously prevailed through whatever problems were in his way. His love for his country was revealed at an early age when he entered the Navy during Work War II, demonstrating more admirable traits such as courage and strength. Yet as he protected the U.S in war, Nixon then began to pursue politics. He soared up the political ladder, from gaining admission in Congress, and then being elected into the Senate. But no step was greater then being in the running for vice presidency. Nixon had the whole country cheering him on; however, his swift rise in politics crashed when disaster struck.

Nixon, a Republican candidate, was accused of stealing $18,000 in a “secret trust fund.” With nowhere to run, Richard Nixon, in a brilliant political maneuver, took his explanations and cries of innocence to the public. His open explanations actually saved his chances in the presidential election, and the Republicans won in a landslide.
